TDA’s very successful Congress

Recently, Tigrai Development Association (TDA) has been successful in uniting and consolidating the efforts of Tigraians towards the development of the region. This success has been repeated in its 7th Regular Congress conducted from September 2-3/2006 at Mekelle Institute of Technology (MIT). In this historic Congress 175 (72.6%) voting member, 70 non-voting members and 155 observers (representatives of different governmental and non-governmental organizations) participated very actively. Among the democratically elected participants were three from North America, three from Europe and three from the Middle East

As it was conducted under the special slogan ’Unity for Development’, almost every body was optimist and it was very successful as expected. Actually, the success of this Congress was more than expected.

Agenda of the 7th Regular Congress were:

TDA’s 2 ½ years report by Ato Araya Zerihun, Chairman of the board followed by hot and attractive discussion
Audit report by the elected Audit Commission members and discussion
Presentation of and discussion on TDA’s future directions
Amendments of the Memorandum of Association
Election of new Board and Audit Commission members
The newly elected Board and Audit members From the previous board, only 4 members are reelected.The following 23 people are elected as board members for the coming 2 years.

In addition, the representatives of the Foreign Chapters, who participated in the Congress i.e. three people from North America, three from Europe and three from the Middle East, are also elected as Board members. Therefore, they become 23 in total. The profile of each member will appear on our web site very soon.

Major resolutions of TDA’s 7th Congress

Participants have unanimously passed the following resolutions.

1. We shall strengthen our efforts for the success of the Food Security Program going on in the region.
2. We fully accept TDA’s new directions of development and are committed to implement them individually and with our association.
3. We fully accept the reports presented by TDA’s Board Chairperson and the Audit Commission and commit ourselves to make a follow up of the issues raised in.
4. We have decided to convince and recruit the Tigraians living and/or working with us in to TDA.
5. We shall struggle to implement projects designed by TDA and strengthen our association
6. We shall work in collaboration with other development organizations and are grateful for the genuine cooperation made by all our supporters.
7. We shall clearly inform our branches about the criteria for prize award
8. To alleviate the poverty in the region, we shall implement the project centered membership contribution and fund raising strategy
9. We shall try our best to support all the efforts to rehabilitate our citizens affected by flood catastrophe.

Tigrai Development Association(T.D.A) is a non-profitable NGO. Our objective is to serve people in different sectors like:
