The need for establishment
• To rebuild the capacity of the broken civil society because of the
Ethio-Eritrea war
• Over 300,000 Internally displaced people
• Over 100,000 Deportees
• Over 12,000 Eritrean Refugees
• Loss of life and property
• Conflict over meagre resources
• Mistrust, hatred and lack of good neighbourhoodness
• Trauma and psycho-social problems
Major achievements and Impact of funding
• The awareness raising secession created a good opportunity for the displaced
people to say what they felt about the conflict
• Despite their emotional feelings, they felt very positive at the end of
training sessions
• The traditional counselling system of the community has been structured
through the peer to peer training given by the project.
• The peer to peer counselling was effective because the counsellors and the
beneficiaries speak the same language, have the same culture and is less
costly.
• It is reported that there was a reduction in domestic conflict as a result of
skills learned at the training
